Check out my review for OF POSEIDON, Anna Banks' debut novel, and the first in the Syrena Legacy! Last year during Splash, Angel reviewed the secong book, OF TRITON!

You can also sneak a peek at my interview with DEGREES OF WRONG designer Kanaxa. While the book doesn't feature mermaids, it does explore underwater realms! Anna Scarlett is the pseudonym of YA author Anna Banks when she's writing adult fiction.

New York Times Bestselling author of The Syrena Legacy series.

Grew up in a town called Niceville. No, seriously. I graduated from Niceville High School. So did J Lo's second husband. And the guy that plays Aqua Man on Smallville dated my best friend.

Now I indulge my tendency to lie by writing the lies down and selling them to publishers. Well actually my agent sells it, so she's an accomplice to lies. One of my lies is called OF POSEIDON. The sequel is called OF TRITON. The last and final installment is OF NEPTUNE, and it released May 13, 2014.

And um. I also write adult fiction under pen name Anna Scarlett. One of the adult lies is DEGREES OF WRONG.

That is all.

An interview with
Anna Banks

How hard was it creating The Syrena Legacy and making sure everything lined up and was contingent? How much did you have written before OF POSEIDON was published?

Once I started writing OF POSEIDON, I knew how it would all culminate in the end. I was lucky because it  kind of all fell together for me. The only hard part was that I became obsessed with the ocean and watched a lot of documentaries on it and I wanted to fit in all the things into the manuscript. Thank God for my editor! Otherwise you might be reading a text book.

Before OF POSEIDON hit shelves, I had almost completed OF TRITON. As an author it was scary, because if the first book doesn’t make a big splash, then how will readers react to the second one?

You've previously published DEGREES OF WRONG as Anna Scarlett. Will you be publishing more books under your pseudonym?

I hope so! DEGREES OF WRONG was incredibly fun to write and I get email all the time from fans begging for me to write a sequel. I do have a sequel to it already half-written (called DEGREES OF VENGEANCE), but my plate is full of YA stuff right now. I also have another fun adult work, but have put it on hold to tackle my newest YA venture.

What is it about the water that draws you to incorporating elements of it in your various novels? Will you continue doing so in the future?

I think it’s the mystery of the oceans that draws me. We spend more money and time exploring space than we do our own oceans. Only 1% of the oceans have been explored so far—can you imagine what could be out there? They’re always finding new species and when they set out to debunk myths, they’re finding that myths are true—such as the giant squid!

Ariel gave up her voice to become a human. What would you give up if offered the opportunity to be a mermaid?

Hmmm. I *suppose* I would give up watching The Walking Dead. Which is a huge sacrifice, in case you didn’t realize.

If you could be a mermaid for a day, what would you do?

I would cover as much “ground” as possible. Kind of get the express tour of the ocean. OR I would pinpoint the general location of known shipwrecks and go searching for treasure. When I became human again I would use the money to get a shirtless butler and a lifetime supply of Lucky Charms.

What is your favorite underwater novel or movie?
Since I’ve been writing mermaid novels for the past three years, I decided NOT to read anything similar because I didn’t want to subconsciously “lift” anything from other books. When I was a kid I loved to watch SPLASH, but now I kind of cringe at the plot (when you’re an author, you’re kind of cursed like that).

Dolphin or Sea Lion?
This is hard! They both have personality and the adorableness factor. I hereby pass on this question!

The Little Mermaid: Hans Christian Andersen or Disney?
Disney, hands down. Hans Christian Andersen is C-R-E-E-P-Y.
