O P E N I N G   L I N E:

ALEX CLENCHED THE TITANIUM BARS HONED BY Hephaestus and Apollo, amber-colored eyes burning with hate. But those eyes… they didn’t belong to Alex.
Alex’s eyes were warm and brown like good whiskey. I’d memorized those eyes the first time I saw them in that warehouse in Atlanta. This was a different creature entirely.
When we’d moved her to the safe house deep in Apple River, Illinois, we’d almost lost her. None of us, including me, had been ready for the full display of her power. If Apollo hadn’t finagled Hephaestus— the only god who could build something that could withstand the Apollyon—into creating a room to keep Alex in, we wouldn’t have been able to control her

I was so excited to once again take part in a blog tour for Jennifer Armentrout's Covenant Series. I have been with this series since the very beginning with HALF-BLOOD. I have watched Armentrout become a best-selling author and soar high. I've been lucky enough to meet her, and next month, I'll repeat that pleasure. When I saw that a tour was being put together for the final book in the series, I knew I had to take part once more. This time around, everyone gets a day dedicated to one specific book. I chose ELIXIR because, for some reason, I never reviewed it last time around. Plus, it's the only full "book" in the series in Aiden's POV, which is amazing all by itself. Yet another reason was that today marks the one year anniversary of my tour stop last year with Armentrout and DEITY. What can I say? I like anniversaries! This week, I've been re-reading the entire series. I managed to save APOLLYON all this time, and will read it for the first time today...and then it's on to SENTINEL, which comes out Saturday!!!

What I love best about ELIXIR is that it's from Aiden's POV. Armentrout has given us chapters from his POV before (Visit her site to read them all!), but never an entire "book." By book, I mean novella, but it still counts. This is NOT a part of the story from Aiden's perspective like all the chapters were. Instead, it propels the story forward and moves it along. DEITY ended with Alex becoming the Apollyon she feared, completely lost to Seth. ELIXIR showcases the way everyone in Alex's life deals with her unwanted change of heart. She's become a shell of herself, and wants nothing more than to find Seth and let him take control for eternity. She is lost. Aiden will stop at nothing to find a cure that restores balance to the woman he's finally admitted to loving and save her from a horrible destiny. Instead, he wants to find a way out. The only way to do this, however, requires doing something that Alex would have hated and resisted. If it's a choice between the unthinkable and death, does Aiden really have a choice? He will save Alex at all costs, even if it destroys him along the way.

Just...Aiden! *fans* I have always been Team Aiden. Seth creeps me out. Aiden has far more control than anyone humanly should. Alex is, quite literally, his Achilles' Heel. He will do anything to save her, to protect her, especially now that he's finally given in to these urges. It was amazing going inside his head and seeing the lengths he'd go to protect her. It was often frustrating to know that there was so much more to Aiden than us readers (or Alex, for that matter), were privy to, and ELIXIR is a special treat for fans. ELIXIR is painful and full of angst, yes, but it also showcases the lengths of the relationship that has captured our hearts and promises hints at what's to come in the fight for survival.

There's also a lot more mythology infused in ELIXIR than has been present in previous books. New gods are introduced, and we're starting to get more answers that are just as jaw-dropping as the two revelations that came toward the conclusion of DEITY. I can't wait to see the mythology in store for us with APOLLYON and SENTINEL as the series comes to a powerful close this week!

And...that's all I can really say without getting too spoilery!

If you missed it before, check out my cover design interview with Armentrout and designer Kate Kaynak for concept art and info on how they came to the final designs you're seeing now!

I still like the feel of these covers, the way they're so cohesive.  I especially love the beauty of the flower adorning ELIXIR. It looks so fragile, so delicate. It's strong and beautiful, yet it can break so easily. It really reflects what's going on in this book with Alex!
